Temporomandibular joint disorders (TMD) arise from problems with the muscles of the jaw and / or with the joint itself. Injury to the jaw, temporomandibular joint (TMJ), or muscles of the head and neck (such as from a heavy blow or whiplast) can cause TMD. At SportsCare, we manage TMD by evaluating and treating the functional relationships among the TMJ, muscles of mastication and cervical spine tissues. We’re looking to address many goals. Pain relief, decrease muscle spasm/stiffness in the masticatory and/or cervical musculature, Increase TMJ range of motion (ROM) & restore normal mandibular function, and more. Our treatments may include modalities such as ultrasound, electrical stimulation, manual therapy techniques including massage, joint mobilization, therapeutic exercises, and more.
