Fun and Safe Memorial Day Weekend Activities

Happy Memorial Day Weekend!

This weekend, marks the unofficial beginning of Summer. Memorial Day weekend is usually riddled with BBQ’s, swimming, kayaking, camping and so many more fun activities.

SportsCare love to encourage an active and healthy lifestyle. Before participating in any added activity, be sure to consult your Physician to be safe, and help avoid any health issues or injury. Here are some fun and healthy activities you can try this weekend:

Hiking: Hiking is a powerful cardio workout that can lower your risk of heart disease and boost your bone density, since walking is a weight-bearing exercise. Build strength in your glutes, quadriceps, hamstrings, and the muscles in your hips and lower legs.

Canoeing/Kayaking: Canoeing and Kayaking are low impact activities that can improve your aerobic fitness, strength and flexibility. Specific health benefits include improved cardiovascular fitness, increased muscle strength, particularly in the core, back, arms, shoulders and chest, from moving the paddle through the water.

Swimming: Swimming is a great workout because you need to move your whole body against the resistance of the water. Swimming is a good all-round activity because it keeps your heart rate up but takes some of the impact stress off your body. builds endurance, muscle strength and cardiovascular fitness.

Running: Running in particular—has health benefits that extend well beyond any pill a doctor could prescribe. Studies have shown that running can help prevent obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, some cancers, and a host of other unpleasant conditions. What’s more, running can strengthen your knees, as well as other bones and joints, can help you stay mentally sharp as you age.
